The sensor is designed to measure soil temperature
The BSS-06 sensor is especially designed to measure soil temperature at the standard depths of 2 cm, 5 cm, 10 cm, 20 cm, 50 cm and 100 cm (approximately. 1, 2, 4, 8, 20 and 40 inches). Alternately it could be used as a 4-channel sensor to measure temperatures in 5, 10, 20 and 50cm depth if periodical calibration process is a must (if the lm device is too big to fit the cooling chamber).
The sensing elements are Pt-100 platinum resistances. The amplifier and signal conditioner circuits are integrated into the device housing. The body tube is filled out with two-component epoxy for the perfect insulation.
To extend the capabilities of the sensor it is possible to connect an additional BTP-06 temperature sensor to the BCU Data Collector Unit to implement a radiation minimum sensor. The BTP-06 temperature sensor is delivered with 2.5 m (approximately. 8 feet) length cable for radiation minimum purpose to place the sensor 50 mm (approximately. 2 inches) above the snow in winter. The device has RS-485 digital interface for general-purpose applications.
